Improving Life & Comfort, One Attic at a Time
If your home feels too hot during the summer or too cold in the winter, an under-insulated attic is often the culprit. Millers Inc. has been helping New Mexico homeowners fix this problem since 1985. As a family- and women-owned company, we treat every retrofit like it’s our own home, not just another job on the schedule.
Our attic retrofit service is built for existing homes. We remove the guesswork and give you a straightforward path to a more comfortable, energy-efficient house.

Trusted by Homeowners Across New Mexico
Millers has helped thousands of families over the years. As a fully trained and certified team working with top manufacturers like Owens Corning and Johns Manville, we back every retrofit with award-winning service you can verify, not just claim.
Why Older Attics Fall Short
Attic insulation settles, degrades, and loses effectiveness over the years. A home built decades ago, or even one that’s only ten or fifteen years old, may have insulation that no longer meets today’s recommended R-values for New Mexico’s climate.
Common warning signs include:
- Rooms are hard to keep warm or cool
- Rising energy bills without a clear cause
- Ice dams or uneven snow melt on the roof in winter
- Visible gaps, thin spots, or matted-down insulation in the attic
- Drafts near ceilings or upper-floor rooms
A well-insulated attic looks even and full across the entire space, with no bare spots around the joists, no compressed or discolored material, and consistent depth from one end to the other. If your attic doesn’t look like that, it’s likely working against you rather than for you.

Our Retrofit Approach: Blown-In Fiberglass
For existing homes, we install blown-in fiberglass insulation exclusively in the attic. This is a deliberate choice, not a default one. Blown-in fiberglass fills gaps and covers joists evenly, resists moisture, and holds its R-value over time far better than cellulose, which settles and compacts, losing performance and creating dust concerns as it breaks down. We do not use or recommend cellulose in attic or ceiling applications for this reason.
We also do not apply spray foam in existing attics. Spray foam requires conditions and access that older attic structures typically cannot safely accommodate, so we reserve that product for new construction projects where it can be installed correctly from the start.
Every retrofit begins with an on-site evaluation of your current insulation levels, attic access, and any air sealing needs. From there, our trained and certified team installs blown-in fiberglass to bring your attic up to the R-value your home needs, using trusted manufacturers like Owens Corning and Johns Manville.
Thermal Imaging: Seeing What Your Eyes Can’t
Insulation gaps and air leaks aren’t always visible from a quick walk-through, which is why our evaluation process includes thermal imaging. Using an infrared camera, our team can detect temperature differences across your attic and ceiling that point directly to thin spots, compressed insulation, or areas where conditioned air is escaping your home.
This gives you a clear, visual picture of exactly where your attic is underperforming, not just a general estimate. It also lets us confirm the job was done right once your retrofit is complete, showing an even, consistent thermal profile across the entire space. For homeowners who want proof their investment is paying off, thermal imaging takes the guesswork out of the equation.
What Affects Attic Insulation Cost
Every attic is different, so every retrofit is priced around what your home actually needs rather than a flat rate.
A few factors shape the cost of your project:
- Attic size and layout: square footage and how easily our team can access and move through the space
- Current insulation condition: whether we’re topping off existing material or starting from scratch
- Target R-value: the level of insulation needed to perform well in New Mexico’s climate, including hot summers and cold winters
- Air sealing needs: gaps and leaks that should be addressed alongside the insulation itself
Because blown-in fiberglass performs well in extreme heat without breaking down the way cellulose does, it’s a strong, long-term value for homeowners dealing with high summer temperatures. The most accurate way to know what your project will cost is a free, on-site evaluation, where our team measures your attic and gives you a straightforward number.

Frequently Asked Questions
Cost depends on your attic’s size, current insulation levels, and target R-value. A free evaluation gives you an exact number based on your home rather than a generic estimate.
Blown-in fiberglass holds up well in New Mexico’s heat because it resists moisture and doesn’t compact or settle the way cellulose does over time. That durability is why it’s the only product we use for existing attic retrofits.
A properly insulated attic has an even, full layer of material across the entire space, with consistent depth and no bare spots, gaps, or compressed areas around the joists. If your attic looks patchy or thin in places, it’s a sign a retrofit is worth considering.
Yes, energy rebates are often available for qualifying residential insulation upgrades. Availability depends on your utility provider and current program offerings, so we recommend asking our team during your evaluation.
